Ok i just HAVE to introduce you guys to the Fatal Frame/Project Zero series. (Fatal Frame in Japan and America, Project Zero in Europe and Australia). This game is for you if you love scary games and/or movies or you just love to be scared shitless period. The game developers even say that the game was based on true events...
Anyways, the plot goes that Miku Hinasaki, a Japanese student goes to the Himuro Mansion looking for her brother. Now her bother, Mafuyu Hinasaki, went missing looking for his friend and mentor, a mystery novelist named Junsei Takamine, who went there previously to research a book with his editor, Koji Ogata, and a friend versed in the paranormal, Tomoe Hirasaka. So she's there in the Mansion alone and she finds the 'Camera Obscura', a special camera left for herself and her brother by their mother. It can be used to see and kill ghosts.
The game takes you through the creepy mansion with an equally creepy environment and soundtrack. It has everything that scare fans could want, i fairly well thought out plot/storyline, many scares and lots of creepy ghost to slay. It plays like other survival horror games eg. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Etc.
Here's a quote from Wikipedia that is sure to get you in the mood: "The Chief Producer of Fatal Frame described the inspiration for the game’s haunted house, "In an area outside Tokyo, there lies a mansion in which it’s said seven people were murdered in a grisly manner. On the same property, there lie three detached residences that surround the mansion, all of which are rumored to have ties to the mansion’s troubled past. It’s said there is an underground network of tunnels that lay beneath the premises, but nobody knows who made these tunnels or what purpose they served. Many inexplicable phenomenon have been reported occurring on the property. Bloody hand prints have been found splattered all over the walls. Spirits have been spotted on the premises… even in broad daylight. A narrow stairway leads to an attic where a spirit-sealed talisman is rumored to be locked away. Men have sought this talisman, only to be found later with their bodies broken and rope marks around their wrists. There’s a crumbling old statue of a woman in a kimono, and then it has no head. If you take a photo of a certain window, a young girl can be seen in the developed picture. These incidents have provoked fear in the people of Tokyo, and many believe that those who live near this area will become cursed. The deaths of those seven people are unexplained to this day."
There are 3 more games in the series so far, one in development. Fatal Frame (2001) - Ps2, Xbox Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly (2003) - Ps2, Xbox Fatal Frame III: The Tormented (2005) - Ps2 only Fatal Frame IV: The Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (TBA) - Nintendo Wii
